Just east of the the freeway from Del Mar is Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar's upscale suburban cousin. Only four miles from the beach, "The Ranch" or "Rancho", as known by the locals, is close enough to the beach lifestyle, but world's apart from the more dense lifestyle of Del Mar.
About 3,000 people live in The Ranch, many only part-time residents. The homes sit on quiet estates with private, gated entrances, long meandering driveways, wooded lots and they often have their own equestrian facilities.
Life in The Ranch includes the world-famous polo at the San Diego Polo Club, the historic Rancho Santa Fe Country Club, The Bridges Country Club, excellent restaurants and posh retail shops, and the luxurious Inn at Rancho Santa Fe. Hop on your horse and meander through the eucalyptus trees throughout The Ranch on one of the many horse trails, play golf at one of the many lush courses, cycle on streets liked with eucalyptus, window shop in the quaint downtown shopping district, or just enjoy the warm year round temperatures at one of the many outdoor cafes.
